Meet the Kids Who Inspired a Movement

You know what’s wild?

I had spent 15 years working in human behavior coaching, speaking, and diving deep into what makes us tick. But it wasn’t until I moved from Australia to the U.S. that I truly found my unexpected classroom.

It had wheels.
And windows that barely shut in winter.
And 48 noisy, brilliant, sometimes sticky-fingered little humans.

I became a school bus driver, not because I needed a job, but because I wanted to understand my new community. And I figured, what better way than spending mornings and afternoons with the future of it?

What I didn’t expect was how much those kids would teach me.  They were sponges. Wide open. Curious. Ready to learn anything, especially about how to handle big feelings, messy friendships, and the rollercoaster of being a kid.

So I turned Bus 31 into The Kind Bus.  We were a rolling classroom on how to do life better, one conversation, one moment of kindness at a time. And from that came Ray Roxby.  A little boy with a big heart and even bigger questions.

Why I Write for Kids

Our kids don’t need to end up in therapy like we did.  We don’t need to wait for adulthood to teach self-worth, emotional intelligence, and the basics of being human. These are fundamental life skills, not afterthoughts.  We need to start young because elementary-aged kids are ready.

  • They’re ready to learn that kindness isn’t just about being nice, it’s about seeing the best in people, even when it’s hard.

  • They’re ready to learn that love is something you do, not just something you feel.

  • And that self-worth isn’t earned by gold stars or straight A’s, it’s already inside them.

Let’s prepare them for more than just tests.  Let’s prepare them for life.  Let’s give them the tools now, so they don’t have to unlearn survival mode later.

The Stories That Stick

Imagine if they already had the tools to face heartbreak, rejection, comparison, and self-doubt, before those moments arrived.

Imagine if, during a hard moment in high school, or their twenties, or whenever life gets loud, they remember back to a chapter book series… and a boy named Ray Roxby.

These stories aren’t just cute. They’re anchors. They remind kids that kindness isn’t weakness, that families can be complicated and still full of love, and that being your full, real self is never the problem. Because one day, they’ll remember what Ray learned:

That their feelings are valid.

That their voice has power.

And that being their real, wholehearted self was never the problem.
Believing they had to be less than who they are, was.
